Our traditional beer garden in the Bavarian Forest

This is how beer gardens came to be!

Beer gardens are a typical Bavarian tradition that began in Munich in the 19th century. Back then, beer brewing was banned in summer due to the severe heat that developed in the brew kettles. The risk of fire was too great. So that beer could still be served during the warm months of the year, beer cellars were built as a cool storage space that extended the shelf life. To keep the beer stores even cooler, gravel was spread on the surface and shallow-rooted, shade-giving chestnut trees were planted. To avoid unnecessary transport, some brewers had the idea of opening a bar directly at the beer cellars, which proved hugely popular. Our tip: Beer tastes even better after exercise, so why not plan your visit after an excursion, bike ride, or motorcycle tour through the Bavarian Forest?
